ISA Certification, Explained

Filed under Tree Care · An independent guide · Please verify with the Association
Heads up: this is an independent, unofficial information guide — not the Association’s official website. Details (membership, events, directory, contacts) change and may be out of date or incomplete here. Always confirm current information with the St. Louis Arborist Association directly.

The basic accreditation referenced for Association professionals is certification through the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). This guide describes the ISA credential in general terms; the ISA is the authoritative source.

Becoming an ISA Certified Arborist (general)

Earning the credential generally involves passing a comprehensive examination covering areas such as tree biology, safety, maintenance, planting, trimming and pruning, and diagnosis.

Staying certified

  • Continuing education to stay current with advances in arboriculture
  • Adherence to the ISA’s Code of Ethics
Note: ISA is an independent professional body. For official certification requirements and to verify someone’s credential, consult the ISA directly. The ISA name is used here for identification only.
